Archive for July, 2011

Tuesday, 19 July – Friday, 22 July / 9:00 – 10:30 AM, for children 6 – 10 years of age. Coordinated by Kirsten Lowe.

When Pastor Crookshank mentioned that I could coordinate the Backyard Bible Club (BBC) my first thought was, “Aaaah—coordinator, that sounds scary!” Truthfully, I’m not sure the feeling ever fully left me. Even though it was a slightly daunting task I had such marvelous volunteers who encouraged me along the way, and the Lord orchestrated everything better than I could have imagined.

Each day BBC began with singing, lead by Mrs. Lisa Pizana. Then there was a Bible lesson (the week’s theme was “The Call of God”), which I taught. Next, Mrs. Christine Nerney creatively taught a memory verse. Game time followed with teens Zach Lowe and Matt Pizana. The kids really seemed to enjoy the time to release their pent-up energy. Then everyone cooled down while we listened to a story with Mr. Loren Land and his puppet friends. We concluded with a few more songs.

It was such an awesome blessing to me to be able to teach the children about the call of God. For some of the children, this was their first time hearing about Jesus’ love and the home they can have in heaven. It was an honor for me to be able to share the Good News of the Gospel with them.

Daily Schedule

9:00–9:15 — Welcome and Songs
9:15–9:30 — "God’s Call" Bible Lesson
9:30–9:40 — Memory Verse
9:40–9:55 — Games
9:55–10:15 — Story Time
10:15–10:25 — Close & Snacks

The name speaks for itself. We had a great time of fun and fellowship! After a wonderful devotional on critical thinking, we re-tanked on all the goodies and headed outside and played till the sun went down.

With a win this week over Dahlgren/Trinity, our team is now 2-and-0! Here’s Ward’s report from the field:

“Once again the members from the Lowe and Pizana families added hitting and fielding strength—with two notable moments. First was Matt Pizana exploding on one pitch, hitting deep to the outfield and catching the defense by surprise. The second was Dave Lowe making a full speed running and fully extended catch of a fly ball, followed by a rolling tumble—and hanging on for the out! Additionally, Ryan Evans displayed south-paw hitting that kept the defense guessing as he worked the right side of the field.

“Lastly, Stephanie Weberg, behind the plate, catching—displayed an unusual method of tangling up an opposing base runner while attempting to prevent a score: While Stephanie was bending over to catch the incoming throw, the base runner ended up across Stephanie’s back reaching for the home plate—and it appeared that Stephanie was going to carry the young lady off the field rather than give up the score! Alas, the runner was able to reach out and touch the plate!”

Prayer Walk

Two families met with Pastor Crookshank at the church at 3:00. We divided into four teams and walked along several roads in King George.

The Lord prepared the way ahead of us, and we talked with several individuals and families who had prayer concerns for their marriages, children, our community and our country. After the prayer walk, we shared dinner at Vinney’s then went back to the church for our time of prayer.

The Lord brought many concerns for us to pray about. Each team shared their day with the whole group, and we all prayed together. We were truly blessed by the people we met today, and thank God for this opportunity to serve Him and grow as Christians..

It was a good day at the ball field with a close game, good fellowship, and no injuries!  The Grace/Hanover squad won with a score of 12-11.

Fielding, hitting, and base running by members of the Pizana and Lowe families contributed greatly, along with some good pitching by Scott Soderlund.
