What does the Bible say about children?

Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward. (Psalm 127:3—NKJV)
Do you need help keeping your perspective as you parent your child? God has something to say to you today. There are two great word pictures in this verse which will help you be restored for the long haul.
The first is that children are a "heritage" from the Lord. The fullness of the word in the original language is that children are an assignment from Jehovah (the Covenant Keeping One). Remember when you had assignments in school? When the project was finished, the work was well done, and the grade was being returned, what satisfaction was yours when you saw a good grade! Assignments were given according to our ability, designed to stretch us, and (if our teacher was excellent) was designed to promote approval. God is the Great Teacher.
The second is that children are a "reward". Again, the original fills out the term in a broader fashion. God has displayed a gracious favor to the undeserving, a gift, and a possession in giving children. If we do only one thing right in our sojourn on this earth let it be the raising of the children God has graciously given so that whole families may stand before Him united in eternity!
