Hanover Baptist Church Events

Hanover’s Sunday night Bible study is very popular with entire families. Fifth Sundays are extra special. Tonight we had a “Stuff Your Spud” dinner, where everyone brought their favorite toppings for the 40 pounds of piping-hot Idaho potatoes provided.

The highlight (and real purpose) of the evening was the reading and discussion of Timothy 2. Four people read a chapter each, often causing goosebumbs on the listeners. A great discussion followed.

Following the morning service, several families met to discuss and plan for a family-integrated Bible class to be held during the Sunday-School hour. Discussion topics included class structure, study topics, benefits, etc. Additionally, we developed a preliminary schedule that identifies topics, duration, and leaders. Any month with five Sundays is special at Hanover Baptist. We celebrated this Fifth Sunday evening by reading Ephesians. Okay, we read the Bible in church every Sunday. What made tonight special? We read Paul’s epistle as if our church was the intended recipient. Six volunteer readers each prepared a chapter. Readers discussed key elements that were discovered during preparations, giving everyone specific things to look for. Pastor Crookshank lead a valuable discussion after the reading.

Most fellowships at Hanover Baptist include food of some form. This evening we enjoyed a number of home-made soups and sandwiches. As with all our Sunday Evening Bible Studies, the dress code was jeans-n-sneakers casual!

For this year’s Vacation Bible School, we were able to host two backyard Bible clubs thanks to the hard work of the Teen Ministry Team from Pennsylvania. A morning club was held in Colonial Beach and an afternoon club was held at our parsonage (across the road from the church).

Both locations were filled with Christ-centered fun and learning! And thanks to the Lord working though the visiting teens, two of our own youth accepted Christ this summer.
